Answer this week's DIA survey question below!
We are pleased to present the 2004 Democracy In Action
(DIA) Newspaper in Education pages for students, teachers
and parents to view. The DIA series is designed
to enhance the Vermont Votes For Kids civics curriculum
by further exploring topics such as understanding the
Electoral College, political campaigns, and the history
of voting rights and polling. The DIA pages ran
in most newspapers in the state once a week for six
weeks beginning the week of September 20, 2004.
The 2006 series is scheduled to run in late September.
Look for the Democracy In Action Series in your local
newspaper!
If you would like to order copies of the series for
your school please contact your area newspaper.
Below is the
contact information for the Vermont newspapers that
ran the 2004 DIA series.

Week 1: Who
Can Vote? (September 27th-October 1st)
Ask the Reader Survey:
Should non-citizens, convicted felons, or the mentally
ill be allowed to vote?
Vote Here!
Note:
There was an error in the Literacy test question under
the headline Are You Smart Enough to Vote?
in the first Democracy in Action Page which ran in daily
papers the week of September 27 - October 1. The question
asked: To serve as President of the United States
a person must have been a resident for how many years?
It should have asked: To serve as President of
the United States a person must be a U.S. citizen and
be how many years old? The correct answer is 35 years.
We apologize for the confusion!
Week 2: The
Power to Participate (October 4th-8th)
Ask the Reader Survey:
Since the youth voter turnout between the ages of 18
and 24 is so low, should the voting age be raised to
25?
Vote Here!

Should candidates be allowed to use negative ads when
